This study aims to explore the background, motivation, process, and success factors of academic entrepreneurship. Based on different types of entrepreneurship, this study categorizes entrepreneurial activities into three types: commercial entrepreneurship (profit-oriented), social entrepreneurship (focused on solving social problems), and academic entrepreneurship (initiated by academic institutions to commercialize research findings). Regarding policies supporting academic entrepreneurship, according to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) expert reports, Taiwan's global ranking in government plans and support policies has significantly improved since 2013. However, research specifically on academic entrepreneurship remains limited. Therefore, this study aims to fill this research gap by analyzing the key success factors of academic entrepreneurship teams and examining the support provided by government support programs.
This study selected five entrepreneurial teams at different stages as case studies, including four teams led by university professors and one student entrepreneurial team, covering various scales from Pre-A round to IPO listing. The objective of this research is to comprehensively analyze the entrepreneurial process of academic entrepreneurship teams through the collection of primary and secondary data, summarize successful experiences, investigate the impact of government support programs on academic entrepreneurship teams, and propose improvement suggestions.
The research process adopts a qualitative case study approach, encompassing the confirmation of research objectives, establishment of methods, literature review, data collection, case analysis, and finally, drawing conclusions and making recommendations. The research content includes entrepreneurial motivation and initial resources, product and technological innovation, market demand and competitive advantage, business model, growth strategy, key success factors, fundraising process, and the influence of government support and policies. This study hopes to provide academic entrepreneurs and policymakers with insights through an in-depth analysis of academic entrepreneurship teams, thereby promoting the success and development of academic entrepreneurship.
