Abstract: | The first In Vitro successfully established human ovarian cancer cell line in Taiwan area, designated OC-3/VGH was made from a patient with serious papillary adenocarcinoma of the ovary, using Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle’s Medium (DMEM) supplemented with 10-20% fetal calf serum. The cells were derived from patient’s tumor tissue and grew as a monolayer of epithloid cells in culture. The cells have a doubling time of 48 hours determined by using a haemacytometer. Giemsa banding of mataphase chromosomes had revealed that the distribution of chromosome number of OC-3/VGH varied widely from 38 to 68 with a model number of 62. The cells have been subcultured 97 passages since its initiation in June, 1983, and maintainted in active culture in Laboratory of Tumor Biology at Veterans General Hospital, Taipei. It is believed that the establishment of this cell line will provide an useful in vitro model for Gynecological neoplastims studies. |
