Work overload and overstraining is a common aspect among workers today. During the 2010 global financial crisis, along with Foxconn suicide events, Taiwan's media constantly fueled blame on long working hours. In reality, work related stress may lead to depression and possibly death (Karoshi). In the 21st century, employee productivity is one of the most important assets for an enterprise; staffs lacking motivation or those in poor health, become negative assets. Enterprises should enhance competitiveness through the education of self-health management to reduce employees’overload and overstrain. In order to prevent acute diseases to the circulatory system caused by overstrain, we should reduce and amend the pressure, overloading, and unhealthy lifestyle that individuals face in their working environment. Taiwan’s “Labor Occupational Safety and Health Act” has regulations regarding working hours, workplace environment, regular health check and other measures to look after employees; however, it only proposes a hindsight viewpoint and no preventive measures. To construct the telemedicine mechanism, the Blossom Platform for Health Management (BPHM) model uses an innovative health promotion platform that eliminates pressure and detects overstrain earlier; therefore, hopefully preventing the disease. The development of an integrated system consisting of portable ECG sensor, heart rate variability measurements, acoustic bio-feedback technology, database/data-mining, wireless access and cloud accessibility constructs the BPHM cloud computing platform. It offers enterprises and its employees a new model of healthcare management which innovates and translates complex data into straightforward information and intuitive health indicators. With the cloud database, each individual’s physical and mental health status can be obtained, analyzed, and an immediate feedback can be proposed for a healthier lifestyle. The pilot study consisted of a small scale (30 people) and short-term (three months) BPHM test where employees shared their experience and expectations regarding “cloud” pay-for-service health management. Results showed that using the BPHM model, there was more interaction during the health employee’s health examination; thus, breaking the traditional unidirectional and doctor orientated consultations. The ability of having first-hand knowledge of possible risk factors resulted in most of the participants willingness to immediately change their lifestyles and continue using the BPHM personalized health assessment device. Our new business model links users of this generation and fulfills the needs of employees by creating a brand new self-healthcare management platform using “mobile plus cloud” elements. The estimated five-year operating cost of using BPHM as a substitute for traditional health care management model can be easily sustained by a single enterprise. This innovative health care strategy should be adopted by individuals, businesses, and also the government due to its accessibility and cost effectiveness in detecting and preventing diseases. |
