Smoking is still the second leading risk factor of death in Taiwan even though the government has been taking several measures for smoking cessation these years. Only forty percent people has successful smoking cessation, and around thirty percent people smokes after quitting attempts. This study aimed to analysis the correlation between the efficacy of smoking cessation and the personality in people seeking medical care. We aimed to enroll 150 those patients joined the smoking cessation program and a paper-based survey questionnaire would be collected. Personal information, motivations for smoking cessation, modified big five personality tests, and partner interaction questionnaire were included. We would perform statistical analysis by using descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, Independent Sample t test, and logistic regression analysis. Univariate analysis reveals short-term smoking cessation is related to income, age of smoking initiation, and conscientiousness, while multivariate analysis reported short-term smoking cessation is related to age of smoking initiation, quit attempts, income, smoking cessation due to illness, and positive support. For long-term smoking cessation, both univariate and multivariate analysis disclosed quit attempts and positive support have the crucial role. How to provide sufficient positive support may be an important measurement to improve smoking cessation in the health education. |
