This study aims to investigate business models for reusing deadstock fabrics in Taiwan’s textile industry and to evaluate the feasibility and strategies for establishing a third-party platform to match supply and demand of such materials. The textile industry is the world’s second-largest polluter, and in recent years, the emergence of fast fashion has intensified resource waste and environmental pressure. In response to the global emphasis on sustainability and environmental protection, Taiwan’s textile sector must seek innovative avenues to efficiently utilize idle inventory, while reducing production costs and environmental impact. Currently, a significant volume of deadstock fabrics in Taiwan is handled mainly through low-price sales, incineration, or storage, which not only impedes resource utilization but also contributes to an increased environmental burden. This research provides an in-depth examination of current reuse models for deadstock fabrics, analyzing their business frameworks and operational strategies. It is structured into six chapters: Introduction, Literature Review, Industry Overview and Supply-Demand Analysis of Deadstock Fabrics, Case Studies, Business Model Construction, and Conclusions and Recommendations. The literature review covers circular fashion, approaches for handling deadstock fabrics, the development of Taiwan’s textile industry, and a review of sustainability goals. By examining both the supply and demand sides of deadstock fabrics, establishing a third-party matching platform can effectively connect these resources with market needs, demonstrating considerable growth potential. Through case analyses of international and domestic platforms—such as Queen of Raw, SwatchOn, Bihua Fabric Street, and Hermin Textile TEXTIP—this study highlights key success factors for operating a deadstock fabrics platform in Taiwan. It also proposes short-, medium-, and long-term development strategies that are expected to balance market supply and demand, revitalize the value of deadstock fabrics, and ultimately foster the sustainable development of Taiwan’s textile industry. |
