臺灣、香港與中國電影與影集中的口譯員形象

Abstract

影視作品不僅能反映社會現實，更能影響大眾的認知。本研究旨在探討臺灣、香港與中國電影與影集中的口譯員形象，分析2000年至2024年間，三部電影與四部影集中，10位口譯員的形象與描繪。研究建立編碼架構並採用內容分析法，從口譯員的描述性基本特徵、口譯員角色、口譯員的敘事角色三大方向切入探討口譯員的形象呈現。 研究結果顯示，臺灣、香港與中國電影與影集中多為年輕、女性、非專業口譯員，大多採用逐步口譯。在口譯角色上，大多數口譯員為翻譯員，但是半數以上的口譯員會在不同口譯場合、因應不同溝通目的而轉換口譯角色，如文化調解者、倡議者、機構代理人。在敘事角色上，大多口譯員角色為戲份多的第一或次要角色，多為隨故事而發展的動態角色，且多為刻畫豐富的立體角色。半數以上的口譯員角色展現出了幫助者的性格，少數為自我成就者與和平締造者。多數口譯員角色於故事中的主要行動為幫助者，少數為英雄。 研究亦探討口譯員形象呈現之原因，歸納出臺灣、香港與中國電影與影集中的口譯員形象塑造，除了反映出社會大眾對於口譯與口譯員的看法與期待以外，亦深受儒家文化影響。同時，研究亦辨別與口譯或口譯員高度相關的主題，包含移民與移工、機器翻譯、性別偏見、國家語言政策等。

Cinematic and televisual media not only reflect social realities but also influence public perceptions. This study examines the portrayal of interpreters in films and television series from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China. The research analyzes the depiction of 10 interpreter characters in three films and four television series produced between 2000 and 2024. Adopting content analysis with an established coding scheme, the study investigates interpreter representations through three primary dimensions: descriptive characteristics, interpreter roles, and narrative character types. The findings reveal that Interpreters In Taiwanese, Hong Kong, and Chinese films and television series are predominantly depicted as young, female, non-professional practitioners, primarily engaging in consecutive interpretation. While most characters are presented as translators, over half demonstrate role flexibility, adapting to various interpreting contexts and communication objectives by assuming roles such as cultural mediators, advocates, or system agents. In terms of narrative character types, interpreter characters frequently assume primary or secondary characters, exhibit dynamic character development, and enjoy enriched depiction. The majority of these characters display helper personality, with fewer instances of achievers or peacemakers. Their primary narrative functions and actions are predominantly that of helpers, with a minority portrayed as heroes. The study further explores the underlying factors influencing these portrayals, concluding that the representation of interpreters in Taiwanese, Hong Kong, and Chinese films and television series not only reflects societal perceptions and expectations of interpretation and interpreters but are also significantly influenced by Confucian cultural values. Additionally, the research identifies themes closely associated with interpretation or interpreters, including migration and migrant workers, machine translation, gender norms and bias, and national language policies.
