This thesis delves into the potential of fostering partnerships between Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Japan and Taiwan, leveraging their technological prowess and business acumen. These collaborations offer unique advantages stemming from shared cultural values and geographic proximity. Through an in-depth examination of the characteristics, strengths, and challenges of these SMEs, the research aims to uncover strategies for achieving mutual growth, fostering innovation, and expanding market presence.
Survey findings and case studies reveal a convergence of challenges faced by SMEs in both Japan and Taiwan, albeit with nuanced differences related to economic conditions, international expansion, workforce dynamics, digitalization, and succession planning.
The research draws several key conclusions:
1. The identification of specific strategic areas ripe for collaborative business engagement between Japan and Taiwan SMEs, illuminating promising areas of mutual benefit and synergy.
2. The for2mulation of pragmatic collaboration approaches poised to provide SMEs with actionable guidelines for formalizing partnerships, thereby facilitating the cultivation of productive, resilient, and sustainable alliances.
3. Recognition of the multifaceted roles that diverse stakeholders—including companies, trade associations, academic institutions, local governments, and central governments—can play in fortifying SME competitiveness within the Taiwan-Japan collaboration ecosystem.
4. The centrality of trust as an indispensable requirement in the establishment of enduring relationships, underlining the imperative of adopting a methodical and conscientious approach to cultivating trust over time.
By outlining actionable suggestions, this thesis advocates for the cultivation of cross-border partnerships as a means for Taiwanese and Japanese SMEs to not only navigate market challenges but also to foster enduring and sustainable growth in the global marketplace.
