Abstract: | none This thesis examines how R&D investments influence Colombia's agricultural TFP growth between 1981 and 2021. Despite global improvements in TFP contributing significantly to agricultural growth, Colombia's productivity index lags behind Latin American and global averages. The study highlights the fluctuating and often inadequate investment in agricultural R&D in Colombia, underscoring its importance for sustainable growth. Employing an ARDL model, the research examines the long- and short-term effects that R&D expenditure has on TFP. Additionally, the research explores the influence of auxiliary variables such as irrigation, machinery, and fertilizers. Data sourced from the FAO, the World Bank, and ASTI forms the basis of this analysis. The study finds a positive relationship between R&D expenditure and TFP growth, validating hypotheses that increased R&D expenditure significantly enhances agricultural productivity and technological adoption benefits agricultural TFP. |
