| zh_TW |
dc.description.abstract | With the rapid growth of online streaming services, closed captions serve as an essential form of audiovisual translation for the deaf and hard-of-hearing, conveying comprehensive auditory elements like sound effects, music, voice quality, volume, and tone. This research reviews the development of audiovisual translation, the crucial concept of media accessibility for diverse audiences, and the connection between multimodality and translation. Aiming to investigate the complex multimodal meaning-making in audiovisual content, analyze the intersemiotic translation strategies employed, and explore captioning practices that promote media accessibility, this study employs a multimodal framework to analyze the captioning of the film Little Women (2019). The analysis reveals the interplay of modes such as language, image, sound, and music, where captioners utilize strategies such as adding speaker identification, adjusting caption positioning, and using icons and typographical formatting to provide plot-relevant details for the deaf and hard-of-hearing. Through this study, the researcher hopes to offer diverse perspectives on subtitling practices in Taiwan, ensuring that individuals with varying needs can immerse themselves and enjoy audiovisual works. | en |
