Taiwan''s neutral voters account for nearly 50% in 2022, and are considered a key group in the 2022 nine-in-one election and the 2024 presidential election. As a result, this study used questionnaire surveys before the -9-in-1election in 2002 and focus group interviews before the 2024 presidential election to investigate the impact of anti-party sentiment, negative election news, and Taiwan Strait security discourse on political participation among voters. Under the current tense across the Taiwan Strait and the confrontation between the United States and China, this study aims to analyzing how the neutral voters affect these two elections which are crucial to the future of Taiwan by means of empirical research. The research results revealed an extreme blue-green opposition complex among voters. The participants of the current study perceive Taiwan’s political parties primarily focus on their own interests and cannot effectively reflect public opinion, resulting in public’s disappointment and resent political parties. When the public’s anti-party sentiment is stronger, dissatisfaction with the parties'' governance performance increases,it is more likely to reduce their online political participation. Short-term information such as negative election news has significant impact on voters'' political participation and voting choices. In addition, the Taiwan Strait security discourse has not found significant impact on the 2022 local elections. However, the participants generally believed that the Taiwan Strait security issue is a key factor in voting in the 2024 presidential election, tend to agree with a neutral stance on Taiwan Strait security issues and, emphasizes the importance of independence and neutrality for voters. |
