Battery energy storage systems have become crucial for addressing the challenges of power system operations and stability resulting from the increasing penetration of intermittent renewable energy sources. A deregulated electricity market allows energy storage service providers selling their storage capacity to the grid operator. This research aims to develop a bilevel programming model to optimize the bidding strategy of energy storage service providers. The proposed bilevel model can be converted into a single-level mixed integer linear programming model by using primal/dual optimality conditions, Karush–Kuhn–Tucker (KKT) conditions and linearization methods. The case study uses Taiwan Energy Trading Platform as market background and adopts electricity generation data in Taiwan to analyze the bidding strategy and profits of the market participants. |
