| 摘要: | 本研究以製藥產業委外代工廠商(CMO)為研究對象,詳細分析CMO產業結構、特性以及趨勢,挑選出兩個具有成功潛力的代表性廠商Samsung BioLogics和凱萊英,分析兩者策略並與代工廠商的典範台積電做對照,推論CMO公司創造競爭優勢的最佳策略。本研究發現,CMO難以擺脫代工產業價格競爭的宿命,且由於產品先天上的差異使得CMO產業難以出現像晶圓代工產業一樣成功的廠商,但是CMO仍然可以針對藥物製造過程中的痛點,發展可持續進步的技術平台,以此技術障礙來創造長期的競爭優勢。最後本研究也分析了台灣CMO產業的現況,發現只有少數幾家原料藥廠專注在製造的服務,以鎖定利基市場的機會為主要策略。此策略有機會獲得短期的成功,但長期而言則不一定能持續地保持獲利。唯有與國際領先技術接軌,打造世界頂尖的專利技術平台,方能有機會長期享有超額利潤,成為世界頂尖的CMO廠商。 The objective of this research is contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs) in pharmaceutical industry. The purpose of this research is to find out the best competitive strategies for CMOs, and these can be inferred by analyzing the structure, traits and trends of the industry, then comparing the strategies of two CMOs, Samsung BioLogics and Asymchem(凱萊英)which have great chances to success to the outstanding OEM model TSMC. The result reveals that a CMO is hard to become as successful as TSMC due to the inevitable price competition and the product nature. However, a CMO can still create competitive advantages over its competitors in the long run if it can develop a proprietorial technology platform to solve the pain points in specific manufacturing processes. Additionally, this research also investigates the status of CMO industry in Taiwan, discovering that there are only a few firms adopting the business model of contract manufacturing and relying on the opportunities in the niche markets. It’s possible for a firm to get short-term success with niche market strategy, but it does not guarantee the long-term profitability. The only way for a Taiwanese CMO to become a world-class CMO with long-lasting excess profits is to getting access to the latest manufacturing technologies and top talents around the world and then developing a leading proprietorial technology platform on its own. |
