論《孟子》人性論之「本善」與「向善」詮釋

Abstract

本文的目標在探求理解《孟子》「性」論的適當方式，並反思不同理解方式對於詮釋與建構《孟子》之人性理論產生了什麼樣的影響。本文將從朱熹透過《孟子集注》所開展之「人性本善論」開始進行研究，並點出朱熹對於「性」進行本質性的理解在理論本身與文本詮釋兩方面所產生的影響。緊接是以當代學者傅佩榮之《孟子解讀》為研究核心，探討其如何透過對於《孟子》文本進行全面性的翻譯與詮釋，建構出「人性向善論」的理論體系，並由此開展出「性」的動態特色。本文以分析並統整朱熹與傅佩榮的詮釋建構為主，同時尋找當代學者研究《孟子》是否也有「人性向善」的相關主張，並介紹當代學者批評「人性向善」的論點。最後進入西方學界的脈絡，以葛瑞漢、安樂哲與華藹仁三位的孟子研究為討論主軸，三者皆揭示了孟子論「性」的傾向以及能動特色。在本文的最後，為目前的研究成果進行統合與反思，揭示「人性向善」是理解《孟子》「性」論的較佳方式。

The purpose of this thesis was to investigate the adequate way of understanding human nature in Mencius. Another purpose was to investigate how these different ways of understanding constructed different interpretations and theories of human nature in Mencius. This thesis was mainly to analyze and integrate of two different interpretations and theories of human nature in Mencius: Ju-Xi’s theory of “Original Goodness” and Pei-Jung Fu’s theory of “Tending towards Goodness”. The results indicated that the dynamic and active view of human nature is better than the static and intrinsic view for understanding the theory of human nature in Mencius.
