Abstract: 軟性薄膜顯示器(flexible thin film display)中的電泳式顯示器(Electrophoretic Display),是將微小粒子浸泡在光吸收性液體之中,利用微小粒子的帶電性,施加外加電壓,改變微小粒子在光吸收性液體之中的位置,使得光反射在微小粒子上的強度有所差異,而形成了軟性顯示器的亮暗灰階;因此微小粒子的各種性質會影響到軟性顯示器的光學表現。
此論文中,我們模擬軟性顯示器的基本元件的2D結構,並採取時域有限差分法(finite-difference time-domain method),分析不同大小的隨機分佈微小粒子、不同頻率入射光及不同角度入射光角度下,對軟性薄膜顯示器照成的光強度對比影響,並就其不同的上述情形,探討其影像的成像品質。因為微小粒子對軟性薄膜顯示器的光強度對比,具有一定的影響力,因此在提高軟性顯示器的光強度對比,有其分析的重要性。
Electrophoretic display is a kind of flexible thin film display which immerses the small particles in the light-absorbing liquid. With the charged particle, we can apply the external voltage to change the locations of the particles in the light-absorbing liquid to make differences in the intensity of their light reflection, so that we can see that the physical characteristics of particles have effects on the optical quality of flexible thin film display.
In this thesis, we use finite-difference time-domain method to simualate the 2D structure of flexible display element, analyzing the influences of different sizes of random particles, different frequencies and different incident angle of incident light on the contrast ratio of optical intensity and discussing their qualities of imaging. Due to the significant influences of small particles for electrophoretic display, it is essential to research the optical properties to raise the contrast ratio of flexible display.
