Abstract: 隨著開源理念逐步滲透至資訊系統底層,韌體作為系統啟動與運維的關鍵元件,正從專有封閉架構轉向平台型開放治理。本研究以UEFI與OpenBMC兩大代表性韌體產品為分析對象,探討開源韌體在商業模式、治理邏輯與產業應用上的潛力。
開源的UEFI透過C語言實現模組化與標準化,取代傳統Legacy BIOS並促成業界共通規格;OpenBMC結合Yocto、systemd、D-Bus與Redfish,展現開源治理在伺服器管理層面的典範。
本研究採文獻回顧、POCD矩陣與SWOT分析,比較閉源與開源韌體在營運策略、市場導入與政策合規等面向的差異。並藉由UEFI導入案例,剖析其產業化歷程與挑戰,回顧主要廠商開源轉型後的市佔變化及策略啟示。
研究成果擬建構韌體轉型的觀察架構與開源治理策略地圖,為產官學界評估未來技術採用與策略調整提供參考,並期許OpenBMC成為繼UEFI之後的新一波開源韌體轉型標竿。
As open-source principles penetrate deeper into system foundations, firmware—the key component for boot and maintenance—is shifting from proprietary, closed architectures to platform-based open governance. This study examines two flagship firmware products, UEFI and OpenBMC, to assess their potential in business models, governance logic, and industrial applications.
UEFI’s C-based modular and standardized design has replaced traditional legacy BIOS and established a common industry platform. OpenBMC, by integrating Yocto, systemd, D-Bus, and Redfish, exemplifies open-source governance in server management.
Using a literature review alongside POCD matrix and SWOT analyses, we compare closed and open firmware across operational strategy, market adoption, and regulatory compliance. Through UEFI deployment cases, we analyze its industrial rollout, key challenges, and the market-share shifts following major vendors’ open-source transitions.
Finally, we propose an observational framework and strategic roadmap for firmware transformation and open governance, offering a reference for industry, government, and academia. We anticipate OpenBMC will emerge as the next benchmark in open-source firmware evolution after UEFI.
