This study investigates the feasibility of obtaining green building certification for metro stations, using both existing and future stations as case examples. It also explores the relationship and potential conflicts between certification requirements and passenger comfort. For instance, the Taoyuan MRT Green Line, expected to open in 2026 (Year 115 in the ROC calendar), includes seven stations—both elevated and underground. In practice, elevated stations are generally more likely to meet green building assessment criteria, particularly due to their advantages in natural ventilation and daylighting. However, the research also finds that many certified stations still face issues such as poor ventilation and inadequate thermal comfort during actual operation, revealing a disconnect between technical criteria and user experience.
Through expert interviews and case analyses of both domestic and international transit systems, this study examines the institutional challenges and practical limitations in applying green building certification to transportation infrastructure. On-site observations of metro stations were conducted to compare the design characteristics and real-world performance of elevated versus underground stations. The findings indicate that the current certification system lacks effective mechanisms for follow-up and renewal during the operational phase, resulting in some stations losing their certified status and reducing long-term incentives for implementation. The study aims to provide reference for future metro system design and national policy reforms, seeking a more effective balance between energy efficiency and passenger comfort to support the sustainable development of public transportation.
