Impact feedback, with a sharp force increase and lasting for a short duration, is common in VR. However, it can be extended over a long duration when the applied impact force is sustained, e.g. when swords press against each other, which is less discussed. Furthermore, rendering impact in the position and direction corresponding to VR scenarios is crucial for VR experiences. We propose a controller, XTick, to render omnidirectional impact all round the controller in both short and long durations by integrating impact and pressing feedback. Xtick incorporates omnidirectional pressing force into impact in various positions and directions to render impact in any duration. An integration study was to understand the relationship between impact level and the platforms' tilting and extrusion during pressing. An impact extension study was to observe how the platforms’ speed during releasing affects users’ experiences. A VR study was to verify that XTick enhances VR experiences. |
