The growing emphasis on intellectual property rights and the widespread issue of pirated products highlight the increasing significance of effective legal frameworks and penalties. This study explores the impact of punitive damages on the market and publishers, validated through empirical study. The research begins by establishing a utility function to understand consumer behaviors. This study presents the Stackelberg game model, positioning publishers as leaders and legal and pirated platform operators as followers to determine the optimal solutions for each participant. The study then analytically investigates infringement behaviors under different conditions and examines how the severity of punitive damages affects publisher revenue, demand and ticket price. An empirical study validates the analytical results that the revenue of the studio behave, the demand for legitimate products, and movie ticket prices exhibit an increasing function with diminishing marginal returns. |
