This study aims to explore the development of core journal articles in the field of library and information science across the Taiwan Strait from 2009 to 2018. The study collected a total of 22 core journals published in Mainland China, comprising 50,961 core articles, and 6 core journals published in Taiwan, comprising 676 core articles, for a comparative analysis. The findings reveal significant differences in the growth of article quantities, author characteristics, keyword counts, and research topics between Mainland China and Taiwan, with few similarities. In terms of article quantity distribution and development, the number of core journal articles published in Mainland China significantly exceeds that of Taiwan. The quantity of articles in Mainland China shows a decreasing trend over the years, while Taiwan's article quantity remains relatively stable. Regarding author characteristics, single-author articles are most common in Mainland China's core journals in the field of library and information science, while two-author articles are most common in Taiwan. The overall co-authorship rate in core journals is similar between Mainland China and Taiwan, but the increase in co-authorship rate is more pronounced in Mainland China. Additionally, the average number of authors per article in Mainland China is slightly higher than in Taiwan. In terms of keyword counts, the average number of keywords per article in both Mainland China and Taiwan's core journals meets the standard, with indexing depths within the prescribed values. Taiwan's average number of keywords per article is slightly higher than Mainland China's, though the difference is not substantial. Regarding research topic development, over the ten years, both Mainland China and Taiwan's core journals have commonly focused on data science, information organization and retrieval, information practice, and information services. The main differences lie in the preference for information technology in Mainland China and professional information education in Taiwan. Regarding research hotspots, both regions place high importance on library service quality, digital transformation, and user experience. The differences are that Mainland China's research hotspots are more influenced by policy guidance and the application of emerging technologies. In contrast, Taiwan places greater emphasis on information literacy education, digital resource preservation and management, academic impact evaluation, and localized research in information behavior. |
