dc.description.abstract | 本論文由芭蕾視角出發,藉由探索《羅密歐與茱麗葉》的芭蕾世系(ballet genealogy),以及它與莎士比亞原文的關係,旨在發現茱麗葉此一角色的萬千面貌。循著時間的脈絡,我研究普羅高菲夫(Sergei Prokofiev)1935年所創作的音樂《羅密歐與茱麗葉》,以及六位編舞家的同名舞劇。此六齣舞劇包括拉夫羅夫斯基(Leonid Lavrovsky,1940年首演)、阿什頓(Frederick Ashton,1955年首演)、克蘭科(John Cranko,1962年首演)、麥克米倫(Kenneth MacMillan,1965年首演)、紐邁亞(John Neumeier,1971年首演)以及紐瑞耶夫(Rudolf Nureyev,1977年首演)的作品。藉由比較分析普羅高菲夫的音樂以及此六位編舞家的舞作,勾勒出原劇本、音樂、以及六齣舞劇之間錯縱複雜的關係。隨著此芭蕾世系的推進,後期的編舞家不約而同地著重描寫茱麗葉此一角色,擴大她在舞劇中所佔的地位。我期望表達芭蕾作為一種表演媒介,是如何彰顯出這位愛情故事中的悲劇女英雄,而反之,當莎翁筆下的茱莉葉被改編成芭蕾,又是如何詮釋、體現、抑或反抗芭蕾世界中對於女性設下的既定框架。我認為茱麗葉在芭蕾世系中的演變,不僅象徵著當代社會價值的變遷,也代表著編舞家內心對於性別、父權體制、家庭內部的階級與暴力的探問。藉由分析茱麗葉在芭蕾世系中的演變,期許能開啟對於茱麗葉主體性(subjectivity)不同的觀點與解讀。 | zh_TW |
dc.description.abstract | This thesis explores Juliet’s different facets from a ballet perspective by investigating Romeo and Juliet’s ballet genealogy and its relationship with Shakespeare’s original text. To trace the heroine’s character development on the ballet stage over time, I examine Sergei Prokofiev’s music score (1935) and the six choreographers’ works, including Leonid Lavrovsky (1940), Frederick Ashton (1955), John Cranko (1962), Kenneth MacMillan (1965), John Neumeier (1971), and Rudolf Nureyev (1977). Prokofiev’s music and these six versions of Romeo and Juliet elucidate the relationship between the original text, music, and choreographies’ ongoing evolution. As the genealogy unfolds, the later choreographers agreeingly shift their focus to the portrait of Juliet, enlarging her presence in the ballet. I seek to highlight how ballet reinforces the female protagonist in this tragic love story and vice versa, as well as how the Shakespearean heroine comes to embody, reflect, and refract the assumptions and values of the ballet world. I perceive Juliet’s evolution through time as the choreographers’ intent to interrogate gender identity, patriarchy, familial hierarchy and violence in the play, echoing their own time’s values and ideology. I hope exploring Juliet’s ballet lineage can offer fresh readings and initiate a new discussion of Juliet’s subjectivity. | en |
