Week at Work is a strategic platform that serves as an intermediary that bridges the gap between new graduates and employers. It introduces graduates to employers when they are still students and allows employers to offer them training that introduces them to the needs of the industry while they are still pursuing higher education. The platform benefits from the shortcomings of the South African higher education system and the needs of industry partners from new graduates.
The platform will be hosted by MWeb as it offers online services, and a mobile office will be set up so that there is still a formal working space and meetings with clients will be held at their establishments and in coffee shops. Most of the target institutions are in Johannesburg. This is where major colleges and universities have their campuses in Gauteng, therefore there is a large student population. There are also a lot of office facilities and workspaces of industry partners in the city.
W@W advocates for an all-round education that allows students to learn as much as possible during their study time so that they do not have to take part in a lot of on-the-job training programs when they finally start working unless it is necessary to do so with their companies introducing new and improved systems.
The platform will be self-financed with a first capital of R600 000 from the founder and owner. Start-up costs will be spent on the construction of the platform and safekeep of confidential data. After start-up costs, which amount to R520 000, a surplus of R80 000 will be kept for any unexpected costs that may arise and improvements of the platforms if necessary.
