NGOs focus on social and environmental improvement, equity, sustainability, and other non-profit issues. However, to sustain their operations, they often rely on funding and resources from individuals or businesses that align with their beliefs or goals. Not only is the source of funding highly unstable, but competition from alternative organizations, even those outside the NGO sector, also prevents them from focusing solely on their mission. The financial changes that arose from the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019 have had a significant impact on the essential donations that non-profit organizations rely on. Love Binti, an international NGO dedicated to promoting equality and environmental improvement in Africa, is introducing a new business model of carbon credit development in response to the background and implementation of climate change and carbon emission regulations. While continuing to assist local development, such as improving basic livelihoods like clean cooking and water resource utilization, Love Binti aims to convert previously unpriced environmental costs into valuable carbon credits. This approach enables low-income countries to improve, reduce carbon emissions, generate valuable carbon credits, sell them, and sustainably develop in a positive cycle of improvement. After nearly two years of field surveys, literature reviews, market and regulatory research, as well as collaborative efforts with Love Binti to construct and implement a business model, we have successfully established a collaborative carbon credit business model suitable for local NGOs in Africa. Through the establishment of standardized systems and recruitment processes, we have gathered small and medium-sized NGOs to collectively overcome the entry barriers into carbon credit development. Through a collaborative development model, even micro-organizations can join similar to the agricultural production and marketing model. Love Binti provides the knowledge and skills needed for development, and all development equipment and materials are primarily sourced from local native materials to maintain environmental integrity and minimize carbon footprint. By adopting a subcontracting procurement approach, Love Binti addresses issues of insufficient information and manpower and the inability to afford certification costs among small and medium-sized organizations in Africa. This approach not only successfully accumulates a basic unit of 10,000 tons for carbon credit applications but also transforms competitive relationships into cooperative prosperity, promoting environmental sustainability. Furthermore, it provides NGOs with a sustainable operational foundation for self-sufficiency. |
