As a member of the Klesan''s Tayal community, what kind of communal attire truly represents our tradition? After relocating to the plains, how can we systematically unveil the dynamic changes in our weaving practices to our fellow tribespeople? Furthermore, how does the flow and extent of weaving practices transcend beyond Klesan''s territory to other regions? This study constructs the concept of "weaving territories," breaking free from singular and tangible geographical constraints. Through the life experiences and skill performances of weavers, it links cultural flows, transcending territorial boundaries with a macro perspective. It continues to circulate and embed itself in community networks, providing a sustained narrative that seeks to explore the community''s identification and imagination regarding communal attire. Firstly, by examining the weaving memories and skills within the Klesan weaving network, this paper addresses the gaps left since the ethnographic writings by scholars from the Institute of Ethnology at Academia Sinica after 1963. It encourages contemporary weavers in Southern Australia to value and comprehend the cultural significance of their weaving territories. This thesis explores the context of migration, delving into the transformative processes of both weaving skills and cultural communities. It aims to elucidate the dynamics of community attire in Southern Australia, particularly in the areas of Heping District, Taichung City, including the mountainous and Lishan tribes, as well as the Shanli tribe in Lishan Village, Zhuoxi Township, Hualien County. The goal is to understand the changes in community attire and the interacting forces among them, narrating the weaving territories from a local cultural perspective. Finally, Klesan, as the carrier, encompasses communities with both direct and indirect relationships, reconstructing a new generation''s sense of "us." It establishes the cultural distinctiveness through dialectical analysis, attempting to move beyond a singular perspective towards the development of a shared life community. This aims to highlight the discourse authority within the community, enabling Indigenous peoples within the region and subsequent weavers engaged in weaving skills to comprehend the substantial transformations presented in this study. |
