In recent years, countries have been seeking to develop clean and pollution-free alternative energy sources as a result of global warming. Thus, they are actively investing in the research and development of green energy, among which solar energy is the fastest growing sector. In Taiwan, the government has designed policies for the stimulation of green energy, and companies have invested in the construction of solar power plants and gradually established operational performance. Nevertheless, the overall development of solar power plants still encounters challenges. The most critical ones include lack of distribution feeders and integration of lands. If those challenges could be alleviated through the design of business models to engage different parties of interests, the development of Taiwan solar power plants could be hopefully accelerated. The research hence takes the perspective from the downstream of the solar power industry, i.e. solar power plants, in order to examine its value chain, industry trends, five force analysis, and competitive landscape through literature review and secondary data collections. The research also conducts a case study of a company which focuses on the construction and operation of solar power plants. This research hopefully would provide practical insights on the business strategy of solar power plants. |
