Monitoring intraocular pressure (IOP) has been known as an important diagnostic procedure to treat glaucoma patients; therefore, to have a convenient monitoring tool is essential. Additionally, continual IOP monitoring is required for administrating the dosage and the frequency of anti-glaucomatous medicine for the patients. In this work, a fully passive, non-invasive optical device is proposed for continual IOP monitoring. The device is fabricated with structured pattern on the contact lens, and does the measuring by the moiré pattern obtain from double layer covered together. Porcine eye was used as the sample, and measured the variation of radius of curvature while the water injected in the porcine eye. We have set up optical models in ray-tracing software, which is called TracePro, to simulate the optical characteristics. We also fabricated two types of optical intraocular sensor and settled them on porcine eye for sensing. Compared to other contact lens-based sensors, our device is simple, passive, no imbedded electric circuit, and capable for monitoring the IOP variability of glaucoma patients. |
