Abstract: | Ecuador is considered a food secure country at a national level that’s still subject to unfairly distributed socioeconomic factors that contribute to malnutrition. The last decade saw an outburst of sustainability projects that target the improvement of rural communities. Implementing high protein native grains by using community gardens have been proven to mitigate the rural community’s malnutrition problem and their economic situation. A cost analysis of community gardens shows the average cost effectiveness that argues their feasibility. In addition, a comparison analysis between of advantages and disadvantages presents strategies to improve food intake and accessibility. Thus, serving as a stepping stone into influencing three goals such as ending poverty, reach zero hunger, and responsible production and consumption. Concluding in the combined efforts of provincial governments, rural communities, technical experts and cooperatives should, therefore, reflect private and public efforts through socio-communicative dialogues. |
