The frequency of abnormal climate is increasing. Even if there has been no disaster in the past, disaster may occur in the future. How to adapt to a high-risk environment and have resilience has become an extremely important issue. Past studies have pointed out that the reactions of residents to natural disasters were affected by the degree of place attachment. The main purpose of this study is to explore the relationships between place attachment and environmental risks. Many studies have indicated that disaster resilience is related to place attachment and social capital. Social capital overlaps strongly with the concept of place attachment. Citizen developed disaster resilience through a combination of place-based experiences and learning through social interactions. The roles of place attachment and social capital have not yet been clarified for the resilience of disaster. Therefore, study 1 is to explore the relationship between place attachment, social capital and disaster resilience. The concept of disaster resilience includes risk perception and risk preparation. In addition, previous literature has pointed out that risk perception and risk preparation might help residents to adapt in high risk environments, but the relationships between risk perception and risk preparation is unstable. In other words, there should be other factors that affect the relationships between risk perception and risk preparation. Many studies have suggested that risk perception and risk preparation are related to place attachment. Therefore, place attachment may be the cause of instability for the relationships between risk perception and risk preparation. Consequently, study 2 is to explore the relationship between place attachment, risk perception and risk preparation. For the purpose of this study, a field survey questionnaire was conducted in Wulai community. The study was divided into two parts: Study 1 is to explore the relationships between place attachment, bonding social capital, bridging social capital and disaster resilience. The content of the questionnaire includes place attachment, bonding social capital, bridging social capital, disaster resilience and basic personal information, etc. The results revealed that place attachment, bonding social capital, bridging social capital and disaster resilience were positive correlated. Regression analysis results revealed that place dependence was the only direct antecedent for disaster resilience. Study 2 explored the relationships between place attachment, risk perception and risk preparation. The content of the questionnaire includes place attachment, risk perception, risk preparation and basic personal information, etc. The PLS SEM results revealed that Place attachment positive influenced risk perception. And, place attachment and risk perception had positive effects on risk preparation, while the two IVs were negatively interacted on risk preparation. The current results may help to understand the mechanism of place attachment and reaction of residents to environmental risks, and also helps future risk communication and management. |
