| Abstract: | The Kingdom of Swaziland is a major recipient of funding from development agencies. The main players being USAID, IFAD, EU, UN and other organizations that have an interest in the development of the country, especially for the poorest people who live in rural areas and depend on subsistence agriculture for their livelihoods.
This research seeks to understand how, despite all the development projects that have been introduced and implemented in recent years the country still remains heavily dependent on aid. For this research, three projects were purposefully selected as case studies for evaluating agricultural cooperative projects sponsored by NPOs for smallholder farmers in Eswatini. The research utilizes a descriptive approach in formulating a qualitative analysis of the data obtained. Primary data for this research was collected using qualitative techniques, whilst the secondary data was collected from secondary sources, through literature and document review and from the relevant implementing agencies. The primary data obtained from KII is analyzed using the content analysis approach while the secondary data is analyzed using a SWOT analysis in order to answer the research questions that are specified in the first chapter. Findings indicate that progress has (is) being made in developing the agriculture sector. In spite of falling short of meeting all the intended outcomes for some of the projects, for the most part agricultural projects do achieve the outcomes they were designed for. |
