“Japanese Chinese Literature in Taiwan” has become a new field in Taiwan Literature Research. In the past researches, however, the subject of the works were called “Han literati/ Han-shih-ren”, which emphasized on the “literati” aspect of traditional intellectual in Han Culture, but neglected other possible aspects. This essay explains the various aspects of subject in Japanese Chinese Literature in Taiwan by Sekiguchi Takamasa, who had travelled and lived in Taiwan, and had written abundant of Chinese works throughout his life. The past researches emphasized on the “literati” aspect, but they might lead to a typical image of subject imperceptibly. Therefore, it resulted in structural limitations and narrowing down the understanding of the subject, even excluding the objects who do not conform to the typical image from the vision. Therefore, this essay problematizes the subject of Japanese Chinese Literature in Taiwan again. Focusing on Sekiguchi Takamasa, who lacks of the aspect of “literati”, this essay tries to describe again the traditional Japanese intellectuals who came to Taiwan in early Japanese Period. The writing ability of their Chinese poetry and Chinese is not as pure as the Taiwan classical literati’s, for they have influenced by Wabunmyaku and Kanbunmyaku in Japan. Simultaneously, they acquire not only the personality of Han-literati but also variety of knowledge systems and roles. They express different aspects and leave different works in various occasions. By the above investigation, this essay hopes to expand the horizon of the research of Japanese Chinese Literature in Taiwan in the future. |
