Abstract: The following content of this project includes (1) a business plan for seed, Taiwan’s Official Association for LEED Professionals in Taiwan and (2) a research project to explore my hypothesis about the demand for LEED in Taiwan.
Business Plan
I began the seed business plan in late 2012 and completed it mid 2013 at which time seed launched with its inaugural event on June 20, 2013. Since then I have continued to update the business plan to adapt and change with the current environment. The purpose for the ongoing thesis update is because I had other circumstances preventing me from presenting at the available dates for the NTU oral defense so I wanted to keep it current to the date of presenting. Working with my NTU advisor throughout this period I continued to update the business plan and then we decided that it would help the argument of the business plan if I did further research that would support the objectives of seed in the current market landscape of Taiwan.
Research Component
In many regions of the world that have adopted LEED as a principle, it may most likely started slow, but in many cases it has now become a mainstream standard. In Taiwan the market for LEED is still young and in its growing stages, but there is an important shift happening, where LEED is becoming a preference for the market. I wanted to understand more clearly where Taiwan is currently at in this shift. By way of my research I found there is a notable awareness for LEED in the general market place; and business leaders are choosing to use LEED for their buildings and operations. But, most importantly the population that knows about LEED is starting to demand it as a preference for designing, building and operating the built environment in Taiwan. The demand is essentially the “seed” for Taiwan. This is the purpose for seed, to grow LEED and serve Taiwan. With this research component I will explore the following as my hypothesis:
There is a growing trend for seed’s target market to become involved with LEED personally and professionally because there is a market awareness and demand growing for LEED buildings, developments and opportunities in Taiwan
All in All
Over the past three years I have had the great pleasure and opportunity to be a founding member for seed, write and update the business plan for seed, build the initial seed website platform, lead and/or take part in the opportunities and activities offered by seed; and carry out ongoing research to strengthen the foundation of seed. This is only a small part in the overall scheme of contributions that other members/non-members have given to seed by ways of their service, participation, leadership and sponsorship.
