Human tasks are tasks driven by workflow management systems that require human intervention to complete. Human tasks are typically assigned to participants by specifying people queries against an organization model. However, the organization models of enterprises may vary greatly. How can a workflow organization model be developed that can adapt to an enterprise organization model when a WfMS is deployed to an enterprise information environment? Besides, tasks are assigned to participants by non-technical people. How can people queries be developed that are powerful enough but still easy to use by non-technical people? Furthermore, before a human task can be managed by a workflow management system, it must at first be constructed. In most cases, user-friendly GUIs are needed for humans to interact with human tasks. Is there a mechanism for constructing GUIs for human tasks efficiently? These issues lead to two research topics: the management and the construction of human tasks. In addition to presenting our motivation, we will report our design and implementation of a proposed solution to these issues in this thesis.
