dc.description.abstract美國對男子氣概的觀感在七○年代時產生莫大的轉變:曾經壟斷美國男子氣概形象的「北美霸權式男子氣概」逐漸式微,並且轉而朝向多元化發展。造成這項轉變的原因,一方面是男性運動在女性運動的刺激之下,開始援引女性主義的理論以尋找男子氣概的新出口;另一方面則是僵滯約十年的越戰重挫了美國男性對於「戰爭英雄」的憧憬與幻想,使戰爭造就男人的神話徹底粉碎。於是,美國男性氣概的微妙變化與越戰對美國社會文化的衝擊成了美國當代劇場極欲探討的兩個議題,而大衛.雷柏以男性角色為主的越戰三部曲——《帕夫洛.漢莫的單兵基本教戰》、《棍與骨》、與《飄帶》——即捕捉了美國男性在這段期間,面對越戰失敗、憧憬破滅時仍企圖建構新男子氣概形象的掙扎樣態。然而,在重新檢視、探索美國男子氣概的過程中,美國男性卻發現過去他們對於男子氣概的定義皆建築在一連串徹底否定、排除「異己」——諸如女性、酷兒、異文化等——的基礎之上,這造成美國男子氣概在本質上的不穩定性。也就是說,任何「異己」的存在與改變都能搖撼美國男子氣概的定義,進而帶來莫大的危機。在越戰三部曲中,劇中男性即透過貶抑女性、酷兒、越南等「異己」的方式,企圖穩固其倍受威脅的男子氣概。
本論文將先從美國男子氣概的各項論述著手,探究其發展與變化,再深入大衛.雷柏的越戰三部曲,探討其作品中所呈現的美國男子氣概形象,以及其對「異己」的威脅所採取的危機處理策略。
