This in-depth report explores the fan culture of Star Trek in Taiwan. Star Trek is an American science fiction television series which creates a famous fandom phenomenon all over the world. In Taiwan, there are also some cult fans of Star Trek since local television stations started broadcast Star Trek in 1972. The series didn't become a hit in Taiwan, but the hardcore Star Trek fans began gathering on the internet in mid-1990's, then built physical fan clubs few years later. This report also reveals how the fans react when the series was cut off by the local television station, how fans produce a fan-made film, hold a 500-people convention, and do other fandom behaviors. |
