This research selected seven wood species of afforestation for the specimens, such as Taiwania ( Taiwania cryptomerioides), China fir (Cunninghamia lanceolata), Japanese fir (Cryptomeria japonica), Chinese hemlock ( Tusga chinensis), Luanta fir ( Cunninghamia konishii), Taiwan red cypress ( Chamaecyparis formosensis), Taiwan incense cedar ( Calocedrus formosana) to carry through all the experiments. The ring characteristics measured by QMS Tree Ring Analyzer and the ultrasonic velocity measured by ultrasonic-wave method investigated into the relationship between ring characteristics, ultrasonic velocity and mechanical properties (DMOE and MOR). The results showed that there was no difference on density between each type of specimens, but the values of ultrasonic velocity, DMOE and MOR were all in the same trend, longitudinal>radial>tangential>45 degree. In addition, influence upon each other among density, ultrasonic velocity, DMOE and MOR. Among them, the mutuality between density and MOR was significant, and the relationship between DMOE and MOR was greater than ultrasonic velocity and MOR. Evaluating the influence of ultrasonic velocity on ultrasonic wave direction could be aware that ultrasonic velocity in longitudinal specimens is the fastest, and then is ultrasonic velocity in radial specimens (VR), ultrasonic velocity in tangential specimens (VT) in order, it showed that the ultrasonic velocity was influenced by the permutation of timber cells. |
