Diabetes, as a global health concern, profoundly impacts the global healthcare system and pharmaceutical marketing strategies. Complications arising from diabetes not only complicate disease management but significantly affect patients’ quality of life. In this regard, diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema have emerged as the primary points of concern. The unique characteristics of these diseases, along with the needs and pain points patients encounter throughout their treatment journey, must be considered in the formulation of pharmaceutical marketing strategies. This study focuses on the treatment of diabetic macular edema and applies the concept of a patient journey map to design services that meet patient needs and medical standards. This aims to enhance the treatment outcomes and quality of life for patients. Diabetic macular edema, as a common retinal disease, involves a complex treatment process that requires long-term follow-up and management. Hence, this research mainly concentrates on various aspects within the treatment journey of diabetic macular edema, including patients' needs and expectations, disease awareness, and the psychological stress they endure. Through qualitative research methods, in-depth interviews, and focus group discussions, this study collects opinions and suggestions from patients and healthcare providers. The findings suggest that patients require personalized, patient-centered care and greater psychological and social support. Moreover, the degree of patients' disease understanding impacts their treatment outcomes and quality of life. Consequently, this study proposes an application model of a patient journey map to assist healthcare providers in better understanding patients' needs and expectations and to provide more personalized and patient-centered care. Furthermore, this research offers specific recommendations to help healthcare providers enhance their communication and coordination, thereby improving patient treatment outcomes and quality of life. The study emphasizes that patients' understanding of the disease is a critical factor affecting treatment outcomes and quality of life. Thus, specific recommendations are proposed to help healthcare providers educate and communicate more effectively with patients. For example, healthcare providers can use simple language and images to explain the causes of the disease, treatment methods, and prognosis. In addition, through various channels such as mobile apps, websites, and social media, healthcare providers can offer more convenient and personalized education and support to patients. The study also indicates that patients require more psychological and social support to cope with stress and difficulties during the treatment process. Accordingly, this study suggests specific recommendations to aid healthcare providers in providing better psychological and social support. For instance, healthcare providers can use counseling and social work to help patients cope with stress and difficulties during the treatment process. Additionally, by establishing patient support groups and providing community resources, healthcare providers can offer more comprehensive and personalized support. |
