In this study, we investigate the morphology and crystallization behavior of electrospun fibers. By blending PDLA with PLLA to alter its crystallization behavior, we observed a change in their fiber diameter. We also tried to form stereocomplex (SC) crystal in our materials, to see how it affects the phase separation process during electrospinning. We believe that once the phase separation occurs and the skin forms, the dimension of the fibers will not change. Thus, larger diameter indicates that the material undergo phase separation earlier. We found that materials with larger diameter also yield higher crystallinity in our DSC test, meaning that crystallization might play a role in solid-liquid phase separation during electrospinning. In our experiment, we also found a new crystal structure, we called it SC΄ crystal, whose melting point is just below that of SC crystal. We then conducted some experiment with membranes and concluded that the forming of SC΄ crystal might be related to water condensed during electrospinning process. |
