摘要: | 近年來由於智慧型手機與平板電腦呈現爆發性的成長,在全球市場的普及率越來越高。人們對於智慧型終端裝置的需求也逐漸提升,注重使用者體驗的設計之下,高速運算速度,更高的解析度螢幕帶來了更高的電力消耗。在電池科技進步有限之下,如何利用這有限的電力,一直是智慧型終端裝置上一個熱門的研究話題。
在此同時行動裝置上的社群網路應用與瀏覽已經成為現今網路最熱門的網路服務之一,隨著長時間的連網,背景資料傳輸也造成了相當程度的電力消耗,本研究將提出針對行動裝置上的社群網路應用提出有效的省電機制。 現今的行動裝置大多透過Wi-Fi或者是UMTS/HSDPA等無線傳輸技術連上網路,所以在本研究中,首先分析在不同無線網路環境底下,各自耗電的特性與解析在閒置狀態之下的社群網路應用,在背景的封包傳輸行為,針對特定的封包設置適應性防火牆,減少不必要的封包傳輸,以達成省電效果。而本論文提出的省電機制可以運作在Wi-Fi AP或者行動裝置上,並且不會造成額外的耗電量。透過實際量測與理論推算所得到的結果,發現所提出的適應性防火牆省電機制可以有效的降低電力耗電量,並且對於原先耗電量更大的應用,能降低的耗電量更高,並且有效的延長平板電腦的使用時間。 Due to the explosive market development of smartphone and tablet PC in recent years, the requirements of mobile devices also grow up rapidly. Both high speed computing CPUs and large size screen cost higher power consumption. In order to use the battery more efficiently, power consumption of mobile devices has become a popular research issue. Nowadays, the applications and web browsing of online social networks is one of the most popular internet services. With long wireless connection intervals, the data transmissions in background can consume a great amount of energy. In this thesis, we propose an efficient power saving mechanism for those mobile devices supporting such online social network applications. Mobile devices have been designed to connect to Internet via wireless access networks such as Wi-Fi or UMTS/HSDPA for most of the usage. In our thesis, we will analyze the power consumption characteristics of transmissions over different wireless access networks and capture the packet transmissions of online social network applications. By analyzing the packet transmissions in idle mode, the redundant packet transmissions are found to be the major part of total power consumption. To reduce the redundant packet transmissions, we propose to use a so call Adaptive Firewall, which can save the energy efficiently. The power saving mechanism in this thesis can be implemented in Wi-Fi AP or mobile devices. With the results of measurement and analytical model, we discover that the power saving mechanism can save more energy for those applications with higher power consumptions and also extend the active time of mobile devices at the same time |
