| zh_TW |
| dc.description.abstract | The study explores the trade-offs between food and cash crop production among smallholder farmers in Tanzania, focusing on their impact on household food security. It uses data from the Tanzania National Panel Survey to evaluate socio-economic, institutional, and environmental factors influencing farmers' crop production preferences. The research identifies socio-economic factors that shape farmers' preferences, assesses the impact of cash crop production on household food security, and analyzes the role of institutional and environmental conditions in shaping production decisions. The findings reveal that socioeconomic characteristics, such as age, gender, education, and land size, significantly influence crop choice. Household dietary diversity and cash crop output are negatively correlated, suggesting that households prioritizing cash crops may be more vulnerable to food insecurity. The study contributes to policy discussions on sustainable agriculture, emphasizing the need for a balanced approach that enhances rural incomes without compromising food security. | en |
