This thesis explores the dynamics of the networking industry, focusing on the economic values and strategic implications of the US-China chip war. The study begins with an introduction outlining the background, purpose, and significance of the research, along with its scope and limitations. An overview of the networking industry follows, detailing various networking devices and applications, including WLAN, 5G FWA, xDSL CPE, and more. The economic impact of the networking industry is analyzed on both global and Taiwanese scales.
Using Porter's Five Forces framework, the thesis examines competitive rivalry, threats of new entrants, bargaining power of buyers and suppliers, and threats of substitutes within the industry. The US-China chip war is then discussed, highlighting its background and impact on the networking sector. Historical perspectives, such as Thucydides’ Trap, are used to draw parallels between the chip war and the Cold War, with strategic moves and business examples like Boeing and IBM providing insights into survival strategies.
The study also delves into strategy selection methods, analyzing successful companies from the Cold War era and applying these lessons to the networking industry’s supply chain. A comprehensive questionnaire design targets respondents from Taiwan to gather data on influence levels, priority settings, and future prospects.
Finally, the thesis discusses the collected data, offering a detailed analysis of strategy settings and future prospects, concluding with recommendations for upstream, midstream, and downstream strategies in the networking industry.
