村上春樹文学にみるコミットメント -『騎士団長殺し』を中心に-

Abstract

村上春樹的作品中，經常被討論到的議題有「detachment」和「commitment」兩大主軸。有部分學者和評論家認為此一現象是為作家的轉型，在特定時間點後從「detachment」轉向「commitment」；然而也有部分評論家認為這兩種特質始終從存在，只是散見於不同作品中，透過不同的描述手法給予讀者不同的解讀和觀感。

為了釐清此一現象，本論文透過兩個步驟來探究村上春樹文學中所蘊涵「commitment」的性質，以及該性質在其文學作品中的表現手法。 步驟一：從「commitment」此一名詞最早出現的文本作為起點。運用這個起點，查找該時間點前後的村上春樹文學中關於「commitment」的研究。用以歸納學者專家們圍繞「commitment」議題所定義的內容與特質。 步驟二：接著將步驟一所彙整的定義與特質進行更進一步地探討。從中擷取出這些先行研究中所涵蓋的共通性質並分析其異同，進而作為研究基準。然後將這些性質運用於考察最新出版的文學作品。 由於本論文起草撰稿時為2023年，故以2017年出版的「刺殺騎士團長」進行文本考察，藉此再次確定「commitment」的特質。就結果而言大致上並未有大幅度的變化，並藉由此次的考察進而探索出「commitment」，也蘊含了傾向親子關係層面的性質。 本研究的目的為整理出村上春樹文學中「commitment」的特質，並運用文本考察的方式來驗證。歸納出從《地下鐵事件》到《刺殺騎士團長》這段期間，「commitment」性質相關研究的沿革，並探討在文學作品所呈現的樣貌與變化。

In Haruki Murakami’s works, the two main themes of “detachment” and “commitment” are frequently discussed. Some scholars and critics argue that the shift from “detachment” to “commitment” after a certain point in time represents a transformation in the author’s literary orientation. Others, however, contend that these two characteristics have always coexisted, appearing separately across different works and offering readers varied interpretations and perceptions through distinct narrative modes.

To clarify this phenomenon, this thesis investigates the “commitment” characteristic of Haruki Murakami’s literature and its expression in literary works through a two-stage approach.

Step 1: After identifying the initial introduction of the term “commitment” by Haruki Murakami, this thesis examines the concept and defining features of “commitment” as articulated in studies on “commitment” within Haruki Murakami’s literature during the period in which the term first emerged.

Step 2: This thesis analyzes the shared characteristics and key differences among the studies identified in Step 1, using these as a basis for comparing Haruki Murakami’s most recently published work. Given that this thesis was drafted in 2023, Killing Commendatore (published in 2017) was selected for textual analysis to re-evaluate whether the characteristics of “commitment” have evolved, or to uncover previously overlooked dimensions of the concept.

The purpose of this study is to systematize the characteristics of “commitment” in Haruki Murakami’s literature and to verify them through textual analysis. It aims to summarize the evolution of research on the characteristic of “commitment” from 1997 to 2017, while exploring how the concept has appeared and transformed in literary works over time.
