dc.description.abstract | 童妮. | zh_TW |
dc.description.abstract | One of the most salient features of The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison is that it uses plenty of African American English. Tseng Chen-chen claims in her Chinese translation that she uses Taiwanese as the translation strategy. From the perspective of polysystem theory, Taiwanese, characters and religion, the present thesis conducts a case study to analyze the translations of Tseng Chen-chen and Yang Xiangrong . The present thesis shows that Tseng’s translation is aligned with the “central” literature in the polysystem theory, which explores the distinction between “central” and “peripheral” literature. Tseng mainly uses Taiwanese to translate the African American female characters; although white characters or other characters would also speak non-standard English, or expressions close to African American English, Tseng still uses standard Chinese to translate. In the religious context, Tseng’s translation is closer to the Christian culture. Yang’s translation tones down the religious elements due to possible government censorship, and there is even one paragraph is omitted. | en |
