| dc.description.abstract | 淨灘活動近年在企業、組織和學生中愈發盛行。
| zh_TW |
| dc.description.abstract | Beach cleanup activities have become increasingly popular among businesses, organizations and students in recent years. According to the statistics from the Ministry of Environment covering the years 2020 to 2023, over four thousand beach cleaning events were organized across Taiwan, involving a staggering 170,000 participants. In recent years, the impact of social media on pro-environmental behavior has become increasingly important, and its influence cannot be ignored. Conformity leads people to engage in more prosocial behavior, and beach cleanups can be seen as one example. People tend to want to show their prosocial side during beach cleanups. Is it possible that people who engage in beach cleanup do so out of a sincere desire to care for the environment, or are they influenced by the interpersonal interactions of social networks? However, previous studies have seldom combined conformity with public or private pro-environmental behaviors.
Three of the most influential theoretical frameworks in environmental psychology have been used to explore pro-environmental behavior, namely the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), the Norm Activation Model (NAM), and the Values-Beliefs-Norms Theory (VBN). Not all of these three models have been combined due to the different centers of interest in each study. Therefore, this study integrates the Theory of Planned Behavior and the Norm Activation Model to investigate the effects of social media Instagram on beach cleanup and conformity, and further analyzes the differences between voluntary beach cleanup or not, as well as gender. In addition, in order to address the homogeneity of Instagram users, this study collected 668 valid questionnaires from university students and above in Taiwan, and applied structural equation modeling (SEM) to statistically analyze the informational effects of social media engagement, UGC cognitive and affective triggers, personal norms, perceived control of behavior, beach cleanup intentions, and actual beach cleanup behaviors and informational influence of conformity. The results showed that social media engagement had a positive effect on UGC cognitive and affective triggers, UGC affective triggers had a positive effect on personal norms, personal norms had a positive effect on beach cleanup intention, beach cleanup intention had a positive effect on actual beach cleanup behaviors, and perceived control of behavior had a positive effect on beach cleanup intention. The results of this study are expected to contribute to future research on different types of media and user-generated content to promote pro-environmental behaviors, in order to optimize the role of social media in guiding different types of pro-environmental behaviors. | en |
