| zh_TW |
dc.description.abstract | Introduction: Non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) comprises about 75% of all newly diagnosed bladder cancer, and is predominantly found in elderly patients. Aging, cancer, and associated symptoms and treatments may affect the physical activity (PA) of this patient group. The purposes of the study were to (1) investigate the current status of physical activity, physiological function and depression; (2) to examine the factors related to the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended levels of physical activity (GSLTPAQ score ≥ 24).
Methods: A cross-sectional and correlational study with consecutive sampling was used to recruit NMIBC patients from a medical center in Northern Taiwan. NMIBC patients were assessed of their functional status, symptom, amount of PA, lower limb strength, balance and levels of depression. Results: A total of 163 patients were recruited. The results were (1) The mean GSLTPAQ score was 23.1 units (SD=22.6), 65.6% did not reach the WHO recommended criteria for PA levels (GSLTPAQ score < 24) ; (2) Mann-Whitney U test and Chi-square test showed that compared to patients who did not reach the WHO recommended PA levels, patients with sufficient PA had higher educational levels, lower fall rates, better physical function, better lower limb strength, and better balance ability, as well as lower depression levels, these differences were statistically significant; (3) further analysis of the above significant variables by logistic regression revealed better lower limb strength, better physical function and less depression were the robust factors related to take sufficient PA. Conclusion: The study found that two-thirds of patients in NMIBC had insufficient PA. Further research to develop appropriate PA programs is necessary to improve PA and depression status in this patient group. | en |
