With the increasing societal emphasis on environmental issues and advancements in technology, there is a growing popularity of transportation vehicles that rely on electrical energy as a means of power supply. In Taiwan, electric scooters have become widely adopted as a popular mode of transportation. However, as the number of users continues to rise, the issue of uneven battery demand distribution has emerged, leading to inconveniences and user dissatisfaction. Although research on electric vehicles has made significant progress in recent years, previous studies have predominantly focused on addressing range anxiety caused by insufficient driving range. Conversely, there has been relatively limited research specifically dedicated to electric scooters, with a scarcity of studies exploring user behavior in the selection of battery swapping stations. Consequently, the primary objective of this study is to fill this research gap by examining the impact of presenting visual information in different ways to guide users towards specific battery swapping stations. Therefore, this research hypothesizes that providing electric motorcycle users with navigational instructions to a swapping station will lead them to choose the swapping station located on that route. The researcher designed an online questionnaire-based behavioral experiment and recruited 191 electric scooter users. The results revealed that when users were provided with navigational information that involved detouring to a battery swapping station with a higher battery level, they were more likely to choose that detour option despite the longer route. Conversely, when the navigational information suggested users to travel along the main road, even if the battery level at that station was lower, users still tended to select the station along the main route. These findings provide support for the hypothesis proposed in this paper. Furthermore, through further analysis of user data, the study found that users who adopted a feedback-based ampere-hour plan were more willing to visit detouring stations with higher battery levels compared to users who followed mileage plan. Through this experimental study, electric scooter suppliers can gain a better understanding of users' preferences when selecting battery swapping stations. This research aims to enhance companies' understanding of user behavior regarding battery swapping in electric scooters. By understanding how users interpret visual information, companies can provide integrated visual information that better aligns with user needs. This not only makes it easier for users to find batteries with higher charge levels, resolving the inconvenience caused by frequent battery swapping, but also enables a more balanced distribution of batteries, reducing battery degradation and contributing to sustainable development goals. Additionally, companies can reduce the costs associated with manually improving battery demand distribution. |
