As the economy of mainland China (hereafter referred to as China) is developing rapidly with the wave of globalization, does the globalized cognitive evaluation of the citizens of mainland China (hereafter referred to as Chinese citizens) affect their civic identity? The research framework is to classify Chinese citizens as independent variables, using the four variables of gender, age, education level, and urban/rural residence in demography, the variable of respondents' self-defined social status in sociology, and the variable of political appearance in politics. The three variables were used to test the impact of globalization on the civic identity of Chinese citizens. The three dependent variables were used to test the impact of these variables on Chinese citizenship: whether they were proud of being Chinese (pride), whether they were happy (happiness), and whether they wanted to leave China and emigrate to other countries (sense of going to China). Quantitative analysis was conducted using data from the "Asian Democracy Dynamics Survey (ADDS) Mainland Region Research Project" conducted by National Taiwan University in 2011. The results show that about 90% of the people are proud of being Chinese; 50% of the people do not support the government's restriction of imports to protect the local economy; 65% of the people feel happier in their lives; and about 25% of the people have a desire to emigrate. The mediating variable "globalization awareness variable," "globalization awareness," measured by following world and foreign events and watching foreign movies and TV shows, did not yield significant results. The globalization evaluation was analyzed by "preserving one's own way of life", "restricting imports to protect agricultural workers", and "restricting imports to protect the local economy". The results show that people are proud to be Chinese, regardless of whether they agree with preserving their country's way of life. Whether or not they agree with restricting imports to protect farm workers is not related to pride. Whether or not one agrees with restricting imports to protect the local economy is not correlated with pride. |
