This thesis takes the perspective of my own profession as a mountain guide and reexamines the relationship between contemporary Taiwanese mountaineers and the mountains through (1) literature review, (2) related environmental and structural policy reviews, and (3) personal experience surveys and analyses. I first reflect on the evolution and types of mountaineering from the past to present, as well as the development and significance of mountaineering in Taiwan in the past, and sort out user surveys, markets, and related policies and systems of mountaineering in Taiwan. I analyze the current status of mountaineering in Taiwan, the forms of mountaineering activities, and write about my own experiences to dissect the framework and influence of commercial mountaineering, clarify the current industry status of mountaineering activities in the commercial market, and explore future possibilities for development. Next, I draw on the theoretical basis of Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology of perception and bodily awareness of sensory experience to attempt to understand mountains as a way of bodily perception. Combining the framework of "topophilia" proposed by Yi-Fu Tuan, I explore the spatial perception between the body and the mountains, revealing how sensory perception interweaves landscape, memory, emotion, and culture to construct the spatial characteristics of mountain landscapes. I propose how mountains, as subjects, maintain the characteristics of wilderness; and via the enlightenment and vision of human beings towards the mountains, how we may further analyze the process of mountain landscapes shaping mountaineers' understanding of mountains as places of emotional association and attachment. By collecting 353 questionnaires and conducting in-depth interviews with 25 mountaineers and professional mountaineering practitioners, I strive to include more diverse experiences of mountaineers with different backgrounds and qualifications, and intend to cover more quadrants of mountaineers with richer research and survey content, aiming to add to the research scope of domestic mountaineering with the focus on human-environment relationships, in the hope of finding concerns for Taiwanese mountaineering and depicting the various splendid climbing postures of contemporary Taiwanese mountaineers as a possible value path for Taiwan's future development of mountaineering. |
