| zh_TW |
dc.description.abstract | The ubiquity of presenting content through infinite scrolling interfaces in mobile applications has instigated the development of various scrolling designs. Despite the seamless experience infinite scrolling provides, the downsides of this design are passive browsing behavior and the acceleration of scrolling fatigue. In this research, we systematically evaluate the user experience difference between four commonly seen infinite scrolling interfaces and a newly proposed assistive scroll design. Our findings reveal that the scroll direction greatly impacted application usability, user satisfaction, and fatigue level, while the column amount had a less significant impact on the measurements. We also found that vertical scroll views encouraged users to view more application content, and among them, the double-column scroll view led to a better user experience and minimized scrolling fatigue. Although the assistive scroll design did not gain statistical improvements, positive feedback regarding the design was received from the users, therefore we suggest it could still be considered as a valuable add-on for infinite scrolling interfaces. Our study contributes a framework for future researchers who are willing to investigate the relation between interface designs and user experience, and also provides empirically supported infinite scroll design recommendations for developers and designers who are working on mobile applications. | en |
