| dc.description.abstract | 本文聚焦於大英帝國如何應對1868至1870年的中國教案，呈現英國欲以不干預的思維實踐其對華政策，卻因現實因素而無法落實的狀況。從19世紀中英關係看來，英國主張以合作政策與中國交涉，並無侵略中國的野心。尤其在自由黨入閣後，其對合作政策更加以堅持。而這樣的歷程可以從1868年至1870年的教案風波中所見。第一章討論1868年的鳳山與揚州教案，從兩案的發展中能發現駐華領事以砲艦政策作為與中國交涉的手段，但是帝國政府顯然希望以合作政策取代之。第二章為當教案風波的消息傳回英國國內時，在上議院引起相當大的爭議。政府為此調整駐華領事的權限及在華傳教的相關原則，進而引發在華傳教組織的抗議。第三章則呈現英國的合作政策及不干預的精神，在1870年的天津教案面臨極大的考驗，最終英國仍不能完全放棄砲艦政策。從三年來英國對教案的應對看來，英國在對華政策中不斷在合作政策與砲艦政策中找尋平衡點，其中又能呈現帝國權力系統與行動者的分歧，以及帝國與宗教之間的緊張性。 | zh_TW |
