A total of 15 persons had been killed and 484 persons were severely burned since the explosion of Formosa Fun Coast water park in 2015. Treatments of burns have gained much more attention in Taiwan. The rehabilitation for patients burned is to wear pressure garment to prevent hypertrophic scars recovery on the wounded skin. The major population of burn accident is among children and teenager. The scar in this population should be carefully treated not only to prevent joint contracture or deformity but also to prevent mental or psychological suffering, due to their immatureness yet rapid growth in body size and mind. However, the pressure garment design is usually based on adult data. To meet the requirement of this young population the pressure garment should be modified frequently to adapt their rapid change of body size. The goal of this study is to develop a miniature system for measuring the pressure in small body part such as children's knuckles. The Pico Press® (MICROLAB) which have been used to measure pressure garments in Taiwan is used for comparison. The Pico Press® has the advantages of portability, simple user interface, and direct readout. In addition to portability, simple user interface and direct readout, our design can measure any small part such as a children’s knuckle. Further, the pressure measurement of our device possess wider bandwidth that is helpful for dynamic measurement of pressure change during motion or rehabilitation exercise. Moreover, an analog BNC output is provided in our design. This makes future signal processing possible. In addition to the minimization of the sensing element, a wideband recording of the pressure signal is achieved by our device. This device is supplied by 2 popular 9 V batteries and packed in a small case for portability. All the specifications were calibrated and fulfilled the requirements of the initial design goals. This device could be indispensable for the design of more advance pressure garments in the near future. |
