The purpose of this study is to discuss what is the vexation of overweight women when entering sport field and also try to point out suitable fields and ways of exercise for overweight women. In recent years, there has been a sports trend in Taiwan. Under the pressure of the phobia and stigma of obesity rooted in the society, overweight women are expected to do more exercise to lose weight. This study discussed the experience of overweight women with the methods advocated by Young. The researcher interviewed twenty overweight women to conclude and analyze the tactics they coped with when entering sport field and how to face the vexation of stigma and phobia of obesity. Overweight women usually have lower body consciousness, self-confidence, and ego than normal women because of their special figures. Most of overweight women think they don’t have the ability of exercising. They also think they can’t acquire flow experience through sports . In the end, the researcher used her personal experience as an overweight woman to discuss the relationship between overweight and exercise. In addition, the researcher broke the dichotomy of fatness and thinness which defined exercise to make better shape and health. The researcher used the experience of overweight women entering the field of sport to criticize the sense of beauty that has been constructed and dichotomized, and furthermore, doubted whether it is suitable to judge human health by fatness and thinness. |
